Ghouls, ghosts and vampires haunted Southeastern students as they took a trip through a haunted mortuary last Wednesday in New Orleans during the Campus Activities Board (CAB)’s Tripz on the Traxx.

Students left campus at 6 p.m. via the Lion Traxx shuttle buses and arrived to The Mortuary haunted house in New Orleans just in time for opening.

“We heard 13th Gate wasn’t that scary and a lot of people had already been there,” said management senior and coordinator of the event Cory Young. “So we wanted to go to one that people haven’t been to and that was the scariest one I could find on the Internet.”

The Mortuary is a haunted house that takes on the theme of vampires in an old mortuary as opposed to the standard demons, ghouls, goblins and ghosts that most haunted houses revolve around.

“It was fun,” said biology sophomore Ashanti McLaurin. “I’m from Chicago so it was like a different approach to a vampire I haven’t seen, so it was nice. Even though it was a rush kinda, it got my head throbbing.”

The haunted house started off with the students being led into the house portion of the mortuary while being led by an undead maid. After an evil scientist fries the maid, other actors throughout the house guided the students to an ultimate ending where the students were chased out of the house by a manic with a chainsaw.

“I was a little nervous in the beginning, but I was cool with it,” said math junior Lydia Henderson. “The skeleton that moved, I didn’t like that.”

The haunted house opened at 7 p.m and all the students were done going through the house by 9 p.m. The students were back on campus by 10 p.m.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Young. “Good thing we got there early so that line wasn’t as long as if it were if we had gotten there late. I think everybody had a lot of fun.”
