Last night, the Student Government Association (SGA) held its 2012 General Elections Debate where student candidates running for the office of Senator, Justice, Chief Justice, Vice President and President voiced and compared their campaign platforms. The debate was held in the Student Union theatre at 6 p.m.
This year’s election season is out of the ordinary, as Brandon Summers is running unopposed and has been named President Elect days ahead of the elections. Kayla Turner is also running unopposed and has been named Chief Justice Elect.
Current Chief Justice William Takewell remarked on this situation and encouraged the those attending and absent to run next year.
“Both of these candidates are very qualified, but we want healthy elections,” said Takewell. “If you disagree with what was said here or want to make a change, step up.”
The elections are set to begin March 12 at 8 am in the Student Union Mall and conclude on March 14 at 4:30 p.m. More coverage of the debate can be read in the upcoming March 12 issue of the Lion’s Roar Newspaper.
