During the SGA meeting on Nov. 1, it was determined by popular vote that a student fee increase will proceed to University of Louisiana System for voting approval in December. If approved, it will be presented during the spring SGA election to the student body.
This would mark a $75.25 increase in fees, raising the current fee to $221.75.
The fees will benefit groups and offices such as student recreational operations, the Lionettes, the Lion Traxx Shuttle Service as well as a new Lions athletics fee.
“Students should realize the benefits of the student assessed fee increase,” said Charika Tolliver, SGA vice president. “They do not just benefit one department but are to benefit the university as a whole.”
According to SGA President David Cavell, the budget oversight committee has, for the first time in five years, met six times in the past three months to decide which fees are most vital to the student body. This is hoped to minimize any financial strain students may experience.
