    Freshmen senators elected into SGA

For the 2013 Student Government Association elections, two freshmen ran for senator positions and won without competition.

Carson Adams, an education major from Gonzales, and Paige Locatto, a communication major from St. Bernard, are also both members of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority. Both believe their SGA involvement will benefit the student body as well as their own collegiate experiences.

“I know having this position will allow me to improve our student body involvement and help my freshman class’ voice to be heard in our SGA meetings,” said Locatto. “Carson and myself plan to handle campus issues by getting the freshman opinion and making our decisions based off their ideas.”

The students were automatically elected into the positions due to the lack of freshmen competition.

“I knew I wanted to be involved in college as much as possible, and as an SGA senator we are very involved,” said Adams. “I was a little disappointed [by the lack of competition], but I am very happy that I get to be a part of the freshman senate.”

Adams and Locatto plan to work with SGA throughout their college careers because they enjoy being involved on campus.

“I think that if I stay with SGA I will have a better knowledge of how to help our school,” said Locatto. “Keeping myself involved will also benefit me as a student because it will keep me involved in my campus.”

In addition to her participation in Theta Phi Alpha and SGA, Locatto has recently gotten involved with the Southeastern Channel for Northshore News.

“I am so excited about being involved there; I feel like it will better my knowledge on campus and in the Hammond area of issues and updates going on around me,” said Locatto.

Locatto expressed a love of reading history books, participating in theater and spending time with family.

“I am a big family person,” said Locatto. “I love spending time with my family and supporting them at competitions, games, rallies and anything they stay involved in.”

Both women enjoy spending free time with their sorority sisters for fundraisers, movie nights and flag football games.

“I love hanging out with my sorority sisters, especially when we have movie nights,” said Adams. “We always have a good time, and they never fail to put a smile on my face.”
