The Pennington Student Activity Center hosted Late Night Southeastern on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and provided a fun variety of games and activities for students to enjoy.
Late Night included several of its usual features, from free pizza and drinks to the ping pong tournament.
The Pennington featured several new activities that students seemed to enjoy, such as the giant hamster balls.
“It’s what I imagine a hamster would feel like,” said Stanley Alexis, Jr., a junior visual arts major. “It was hot and sweaty, but it was the most fun I’ve had in my lifetime.”
Another favorite was “Booger Wars,” in which students wore vests covered with Velcro and threw bean bags at them in a dodgeball-like fashion.
Several members of the Southeastern football team came out and enjoyed this game.
Clinton “C.J.” Jenkins, a general studies junior, enjoyed having time to hang out with his friends off the football field.
“It’s the opportunity just to come out to the gym and meet new people at a later time when you’d normally have to be in your room,” said Jenkins.
Jarrett Johnson, a mechanical engineering technology junior and member of the football team, said that the best things about keeping the Pennington open late were getting to have a more flexible workout schedule that day and getting to participate in the hamster ball relay and the bean bag dodgeball.
A variety of students came during the duration of the Late Night event, whether it was to play games or just eat free pizza and hang out with friends.
Arionne Edwards, an accounting junior normally comes to the Pennington for Flip Side Dance Practice. At Late Nite, she was happy about having time to relax and have fun at the Rec. Her favorite things about Late Night are the hamster ball and the free pizza.
Her friend Elizabeth Adams, a nursing freshman liked the Pennington staying open late for several reasons.
“I love Late Night because it’s fun, relaxing and it’s a social event for the new students,” said Adams.
This event provided areas where students could sit, talk and play games. There were also two large rooms for music and dancing.
“When they keep the Rec open late, they keep everyone busy,” said Larrion Weatherspoon, a freshman majoring in nursing, who enjoyed the rooms designated for loud music and dancing. “Everyone is able to interact this way.”
Late Night Southeastern was considered a success by all students who participated, whether they most enjoyed the free food, the fun new activities or just having somewhere to sit and hang out with friends.
