Food and fun awaited students living on campus as they were given the opportunity to cool off from the summer heat while interacting and mingling with the other students that live on campus.
The Back to School Bash began at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31 when the Resident Assistants (RAs) let their residents know that the event was starting by yelling up and down the dorm halls.
The Back to School Bash is one of the events the RAs of University Housing put on each semester and was planned over two weeks in advance.
“The backyard bash was held last semester for the students,” said Resident Assistant Olivia Habetz, a junior math education major. “We thought that it was a good idea because of all of the hype it received last semester.”
At the beginning of the backyard bash, most of the people that arrived were crowded around the water slide to watch their friends go through, as well as trying to get an opportunity for themselves.
“It has been so hot lately,” said Ian Thompson, a sophomore majoring in computer science. “It is really nice that we were able to have this.”
In addition to the water slide, the residents were also playing with frisbees and starting pickup games of football.
The Back to School Bash was held for the residents of Hammond, Zachary Taylor and St. Tammany halls but everyone who came participated in the fun.
The Back to School Bash came to an end at 7 p.m., to give students enough time to attend other events and seminars that were held on campus.
“This event was good, and I will definitely be at the next one,” said freshman industrial technology major Twan Tran. “I just hope next time there will be more people in addition to having a lot more stuff for us to do.”
