The sisters of Zeta Phi Beta hosted their event “Cater to You” in the Student Union on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in order to give back to the student body. Services offered included manicures, pedicures, facials and massages by a professional masseuse.
Zetas Helping Other People Excel (Z-HOPE) is an outreach service program geared towards giving back to the community.
“Zeta Phi Beta has been at the forefront of anticipating the ever-changing needs of society,” stated the Zeta Phi Beta Web site.
The Z-HOPE program has its foundation in catering to the mind, body and soul. The Zetas believe that they are in a position that allows them to service the needs of the community.
“[It] give[s] back a means of relaxation and socializing while bringing everybody together and letting them know we’re here,” said Dominique Douglas, an applied sociology graduate student.
According to Douglas, this event will cover all three aspects of the Z-HOPE philanthropy.
“It’ll catch everything in one,” said Douglas.
Students enjoyed soft music as they socialized and waited in line for their free services. Each station stayed busy throughout the entire event. The waiting list for facials had more male names than female names.
Massages only lasted four minutes in order to accommodate everyone on the list. Students were able to enjoy their massage in a calm setting, due to tranquil music in a room lit by candles.
“Wonderful,” said junior management major, Blake Duplantier, in response to a question about the quality of his massage.
Other participants were also pleased with the services offered at the event.
“I think it’s good that they’re doing this,” said Nikia Martin, a nursing major and freshman. “I’d come back if they do it again.”
On March 2 at 7 p.m., the sisters of Zeta Phi Beta and brothers of Phi Beta Sigma will be co-hosting a spades tournament in the Student Union Ballroom. With a $100 cash prize for the winner, they’re anticipating a big turn out. There is a $10 entry fee for participants and a $1 fee for spectators.
