Southeastern Louisiana University, along with the Campus Activity Board (CAB) and the Alumni Association will, be hosting a full week celebration of Southeastern’s 85th Homecoming welcoming back the school’s alumni and friends with fun activities.
These activities will include Minute to Win It by the dream team, Lip Sync Contest at the University Center, the homecoming parade, the annual bonfire and Southeastern’s homecoming football game against McNeese State in Strawberry Stadium.
Along with this schedule of weeklong celebration will be Gumbo Ya Ya on Wednesday, October 20, at 11 a.m in the Student Union Park.
“Gumbo Ya Ya is a tradition of homecoming and has been a part of it since before I was here,” said Katherine Quinn a student worker for CAB and a senior majoring in social work.” The food drinks and dessert will be provided and this is one more thing to lead up to the actual day of homecoming.”
Gumbo Ya Ya will is for the students, the faculty and staff to enjoy each other’s company while enjoying good Louisiana food. The catering will be enough to feed 3,000 people. Student Union Park.
In the past, Gumbo Ya Ya has had many different forms of fun such as inflatable entertainment (obstacle course, Spacewalks), music (provided by the KSLU and other groups and entertainment companies) and different forms of games, and this year t will be no different.
In addition to the entertainment that will be provided, many different organizations will have a chance to set up booths for everyone to explore.
“There will be groups with booths set up for breast cancer awareness on campus along with other nonprofit organizations,” said Quinn.
While everyone is gathered at Gumbo Ya Ya, a mini pep rally type event will be held for the announcement of the 2010 Homecoming queen and beau courts. More information on other Homecoming events can be found at http://www.selu.edu/news_media/events/homecoming/
