The Pennington Student Activity Center is hosting its own “Biggest Loser” competition. Wellness Center staff decided to run this program to help students maintain a better lifestyle.
“We want to help people get better,” said Megan Mast, assistant director of health and fitness. “By making this a group activity, more people may be willing to participate. No one wants to do it alone.”
Students interested in participating in the competition do have to meet qualifications. They must have at least 20 pounds to lose or have a body mass index (BMI) rating over 28 percent. An appointment must be made with Mast to verify qualification.
Once students make it through that process and become official candidates, there is a $96 fee. However, if a contestant brings a friend for candidacy, a two-for-one fee deal is available.
The program spans two semesters, and there are four mandatory workouts per week, Monday-Thursday from 3-4 p.m.
“This is where the problem comes in,” said Mast. “Most students can’t make the workouts due to class conflict.”
There will be different weigh-in times during the semester that will determine the final winner. However, the winner must complete both semesters of the program. The amount of prize money has not yet been determined.
“Depending on how many people enter and the budget will affect the final prize amount,” said Mast.
Student sign-up for the Biggest Loser competition closes at the end of this week. To make an appointment, e-mail Mast at [email protected].
