For those who dream of moving to the Big Apple, visiting real estate expert Sarah B. Hill wishes to share her experience and expertise.

Hill will present two seminars and discussing the basics of preparing for and moving to New York City, NY. The seminars will be held in the Student Union Theatre on March 23 at 12:30 and 5 p.m.

“New York City is arguably the best city in the world, but when it comes to finding and renting an apartment, it’s a little like the wild, wild West,” said Hill. “The lack of space, limited supply, high cost of living and fierce competition can send someone running for the hills. But it doesn’t have to be this way. My ‘Moving to NYC 101’ seminar is designed to teach students how moving to NYC can be simple, affordable and stress-free.”

After traveling and speaking at several Southern universities such as the University of Alabama, the University of Mississippi and the University of Georgia, Hill choose Southeastern as her next stop.

“She comes for free and has services that are reasonably priced,” said Brittany Bacques, assistant director of Career Services. “This is an informational seminar that does get you useful tips for moving but also gives you information about useful services her company provides.”

Hill feels passionately about helping students with big city dreams after facing her own difficulties moving to the city post-college. She turned her past challenges into an opportunity to help those who face similar struggles.

“Some students in particular majors like liberal arts, marketing or graphic design may see a larger market in New York, so some of them may venture after graduation,” said Bacques. “We thought Sara’s services and seminars would be very useful for those students.”

During the seminar Hill will outline some basics for pre-move preparation, different living options, the apartment hunting process and living in the city.

“I outline each step they need to take before they start packing their bags, so that they are 100 percent prepared for the move,” said Hill. “I also talk about the different neighborhoods in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn, and current prices, so that they are able to make an informed decision. Additionally, I teach them how they can pay less than $1000 a month in rent! Students will walk away more knowledgeable about the rental market than most New Yorkers.”
