On January 27, Miss Southeastern 2016 Brianna Young relinquished her title forfeiting her right to compete in the 2016 Miss Louisiana Beauty Pageant taking place June 23 to 25.
Though Young is saddened with having to step down and release her title, she faithfully believes in her reasoning and knows the person who steps up and takes the title will represent the university with dignity.
“The crowning moment and the title is something that I will hold onto as I further my college career,” said Young. “However, due to contractual issues, preparation for graduation, the opportunity to advance myself within my chosen career field and to prepare for graduation, my replacement will finish the reign I began and will represent our university. This decision was difficult but purpose driven. All glory was given to God and my friends and family are still there with their support.”
Though Young’s reign was short, she served the university with pride.
“I am thankful for the time I was able to serve for the university, CAB office and more importantly, myself,” said Young. “I share my decision without any shame or hurt, but rather with pride in myself and the resilience of a true Lion.”
Normally, the first runner up would take up the title of Miss Southeastern if the current Miss Southeastern ever had to step down. However, runner up junior communication major Nancy Peck currently holds the title of Miss Slidell 2016. Rules and regulations of the Miss Louisiana/Miss America organization will not allow titleholders to title hop.
As Young steps down, she wishes to thank all those who stood by her when she was Miss Southeastern and wishes luck for those whom she was able to meet during her time as a beauty pageant queen.
“Thank you to my pageant directors Veda Abene and Cecelia Palumbo,” said Young. “I also want to take the time to wish the future newly crowned Miss Southeastern the best and I hope for success to my newfound friends Miss Southeastern 2015 and Miss Crescent City 2016 Emily Randon and Miss Slidell 2016 Nancy Peck.”
A crowning ceremony for the new Miss Southeastern will be taking place Wednesday, February 3 at 12:30 in the Student Union Theatre.
