While most students spent their time soaking up the sun on the beach during Spring Break, Baptist Collegiate Ministry students were serving the community.
This past Spring Break, BCM students took on the Hammond and surrounding areas to help people in need. More than 120 BCM students from all across the state were in attendance to help aid disaster relief. The students were from University of Louisiana at Monroe, McNeese State University, Northwestern State University and our very own Lions.
One Lady Lion shared why she wanted to help and how she felt about her experience in Ponchatoula.
“I went to a house in Ponchatoula,” said senior general studies major Savannah Kirkpatrick. “I chose this place because they needed help on that group and I was available. Serving people is such a beautiful thing. It was awesome to get know the people at the BCM better, to be the hands and feet of Christ and to just enjoy Spring Break in a unique way. I would do it again and highly recommend it.”
Kirkpatrick also explained the reactions from the woman she assisted.
“The lady was so grateful,” said Kirkpatrick. “She was grateful that we not only helped to clean her house up but also cared to talk to her and pray with her. She wanted to keep talking to us and engage in conversation.”
