With a new wave of officers entering the Student Government Association during the spring semester comes a new look for the organization this semester. SGA has designed a new logo to represent their organization and reflect the fresh, new approach to serving the campus.
“We felt like it was time for an upgrade,” said Seth Leto, president of SGA. “We had the logo we had previously for a long time, and we liked it. We thought it looked good, but we thought with our incoming administration, we had a lot of ideas and goals in mind. We thought there’d be a lot of change in student government, so we thought, ‘Why not bring about a whole new look as well?’ and kind of let it be a physical representation of the change that’s going to be occurring.”
To create the new logo, the SGA officers gave direction to graphic designer for the Campus Activities Board Victor Betancourt Linares.
“We kind of found different pictures and other logos we liked and just kind of said ‘We like this part. We like this part,’” said Leto. “I was a tough customer. He did a really good job.”
The concept of the logo started in the officers’ imaginations, going all the way to SGA Senate and now to the public.
“It started as an idea, of course,” said Leto. “And really deciding if it was even worth even trying to do it. We pretty much determined we would be looking to change it to bring about that facelift if we could find something that we liked. So, we started looking for different designs. We brought them to Victor, and he was happy to help us. Then, we just kind of went through a process of maybe about a month where he was creating designs, getting our feedback, so we finally found one that really myself, the vice president and the chief justice liked. Once we did that, we brought it to the Senate, just showed them what we had and got their feedback. They all loved it. Once we did that, we just decided to pull the trigger on it, publicize it and officially change the logo. I think everybody’s excited about it. It’s a facelift. It brings about a new look.”
