The university’s Student Government Association will be holding its eighth annual “The Big Event” for students and faculty to participate in.
SGA’s Director of Traditions Hannah Fork explained what the event is and the importance behind hosting it.
“‘The Big Event’ is an event for students and faculty of Southeastern to come together as a school to the Hammond community,” said Fork. “I feel that it’s important for us to come together to serve our community and school.”
Fork explained that SGA is trying to get more faculty involved with “The Big Event” compared to previous years.
The event is scheduled to take place on April 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. However, in case of inclement weather, there is a backup date of April 28.
For those who are participating, breakfast and lunch will be offered. They will also receive free T-shirts and koozies.
According to Coordinator of Communication & Creative Services Tonya Lowentritt, students will be involved in litter removal, painting, landscaping and other activities at churches and non-profit organizations that are within 25 minutes of the university’s campus.
To sign up for “The Big Event” and for organizations to receive more information about providing job sites, they can visit the website http://www.southeastern.edu/bigevent. There is no cost for registration. The deadline for signing up is March 20.
