Since transferring from East Central Community College (ECCC) in 2009, Lady Lions forward Rashima Jenkins was able to make an impact on the court instantly.
As the Lady Lions wrapped up their season on the road in a must-win game versus Nicholls State to clinch them a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament, Jenkins was named to the Southland All Conference team on Monday, March 7, for the first time in her career.
Jenkins played in 29 games for the Lady Lions helping them to a 13-16 record and their second consecutive SLC Tournament berth.
“She had an immediate impact on the court and contributed to our program in just two seasons,” said Lady Lions Head Coach Lori Davis Jones.
“Our seniors did everything asked of them and that’s a major reason why we advanced to the SLC tournament.”
In her senior season, the Lady Lions forward ranked among the league leaders in scoring and field goal percentage, averaging over 10 points per game and shooting over 50 percent from the field, ranking second in the in the conference.
Jenkins also proved to be a dominant force down low for the Lady Lions as she finished the season in the top 10 in rebounding, averaging 7.4 per game, giving the Lady Lions many second chance opportunities on the offensive end of the glass.
Jenkins scored in double figures 15 times over the course of the season and accumulated four double-doubles along the way, which included a stretch where Jenkins scored in double figures in four consecutive games.
One of her most notable games of the season was versus conference opponent Sam Houston State as she scored 18 points and brought down 11 rebounds in the contest.
Though Jenkins had a stellar performance throughout her career as a Lady Lion, Coach Davis Jones expressed how other attributes made Jenkins a special player.
“What makes Rashima special is she is dedicated not only to her performance on the court but in the classroom, on campus and in the community as well,” said Davis Jones.
Jenkins is a native of Bossier City, LA where she attended Airline High School before attending ECCC in Decatur, MS then later joining the Lady Lions. Jenkins has plans of completing her Bachelors degree in Biology this spring.
