The Lions golf team finished their 2017 fall schedule with a disappointing outing at the Duck Commander Intercollegiate. The team finished last in the tournament that featured 11 other teams.

“The team didn’t do well at all,” said Head Coach Jake Narro. “Certainly, we should have done a lot better. It just ended up how it is, but I’m very proud of Joris and Logan individually.”

Junior Joris Etlin had the best finish of his career as he was placed fourth at 10-over-par 226. His previous best finish was 13th place. Freshman Logan Kuehn also continued his progress in his first season as a Lion. He finished 20th at 18-over-par 234, which was his career-best.

Narro described the obstacles the team faced during the tournament.

“William was sick,” said Narro. “We had six players. Connor Wilson, this was the first tournament he’s ever played in. So, we were undermanned.”

The team placed 10th at the end of the first round at 29-over 316 but were unable to perform in the following rounds. At the end of the second round, they were placed 12th at 64-over 640.

“We just didn’t play good,” said Narro. “The play was poor, really wasn’t anything other than that.”

Narro shared his thought on the progression of Kuehn this season.

“Logan has a great attitude,” said Narro. “He’s been working hard, and it’s nice to see it pay off more.”

Narro explained that the team needs to have more confidence going into the following tournaments.

“Everybody has their own individual thing that they need to improve, but overall, we just need to be a little more confident,” said Narro.

With the end of the fall schedule, Narro gave his thoughts on the overall performance of the team.

“We gotta take a look at the entire semester that we just had, and we’re gonna focus on our weaknesses, make those a little stronger and continue to keep our strengths where they are,” said Narro. “Overall, we’re not happy with how we played this fall. But everybody worked hard and had a great attitude. Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. So, we’re really looking forward to the spring.”

The spring schedule will begin with the All-American Intercollegiate hosted by University of Houston an Feb. 16, 2018.
