The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) hopes to put the fun in fundraiser as they host their first annual Family Feud Game Show Night.
The event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18 in the Student Union Ballroom for anyone who wishes to attend. For those who wish to participate, there is a $10 team entry fee.
“We hope to create a fun environment for the students attending as well as encourage friendly competition between the different teams,” said Shawndreka Gatlin, president of NAACP. “We also want to encourage a sense of unity and diversity because we would like all organizations to participate in this event.”
The event will be modeled after the popular television game show “Family Feud” created by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman. There will be a set number of teams with a minimum of five members per team.
“The teams will compete for the most points by answering questions about popular surveyed items,” said Gatlin. “There will be between three and four rounds, then the fast money round where the team will have the chance to win extra points.”
The winning team will be awarded with a trophy and will hold their title for the entire year until next year’s competition.
NAACP will be providing food as well as giveaways throughout the evening.
“We have not fully decided on food or giveaways yet,” said Gatlin. “We are still in the process of selecting what types, as well as looking into certain companies who would like to donate to our organization.”
The event will be advertised with posters and flyers as well as social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
“This is going to be a great networking event for different organizations as well,” said Gatlin. “We also hope to raise money for our organization so we may be able to give back to our campus, as well as community, a lot more this year!”
NAACP is a service organization that educates students on issues affecting all students’ civil rights. Members are required to attend weekly meetings as well as pay an annual fee of $30.
