The first fine arts show of the semester will feature works not from the students, but from the professors of the art department.
The opening reception for the Faculty Exhibition will be held on Thursday, Jan. 26 in the Contemporary Art Gallery (CAG) starting at 5 p.m.
Any faculty member in the department of Visual Arts is eligible to enter work into the show. According to Gallery Director Dale Newkirk, about 35 to 40 pieces will be on display in this year’s show.
Students can expect a lot of variety as members from all over the Visual Arts department have entered works into the show.
“The show represents a broad spectrum of media that represents these different concentrations in the department,” said Newkirk.
Some of the artists have set aside time to create work specifically for this show.
“I made my work for the exhibition,” said Newkirk. “John Valentino has some new piece he made just for this exhibition and Jean Flint is doing a sculpture installation that she is still working on just for this show.”
According to Newkirk, refreshments will be offered to reception guests.
Being that the shows in the CAG are paid for by a student assessed fee, all gallery openings are free and open to all students, not just the art majors.
In addition to the faculty show, two other viewings are planned for the semester. A Student Exhibition will be held from Mar. 8 until Apr. 15 and will be followed by the Spring Senior Exhibition which will run from Apr. 26 to May 12.
Students looking to enter work into the Student Exhibition can find entry forms in the CAG and should note that all artwork is due by Feb. 24 by noon.
The CAG hours of operation are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; Wednesdays from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
