The students of Alpha Psi Omega present the 24-Hour Theatre Festival, in which seven plays with a duration of ten minutes each will be written, cast, memorized, directed, staged and performed within a 24-hour period.
The festival is open to the public and will take place in the Vonnie Borden Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. The show is titled “7 Twisted Tales: Made in a Day.” Tickets can be purchased at the box office located in D Vickers for the cost of $7.
“The performance will be divided into seven ten-minute plays, and each play is loosely inspired on a specific fairytale, but here’s the twist: the fairytales will be horror-inspired,” explained Kayla Hill, Alpha Psi Omega president. “To elaborate on the ‘made in a day concept,’ the entire production is written, cast, memorized, directed, staged, and performed all within 24 hours.”
The event will require much involvement from the members of the Alpha Psi Omega society and the faculty and staff of the Fine and Performing Arts program.
“This event involves every aspect of theater,” Hill elaborated. “We will have playwrights, actors, technical designers, running crew, make-up artists and musicians. It will take about 100 people participating to pull this production off.”
The event and final presentation will provide spectators with an appreciation of the arts, the hard work put into theater productions and the talent that Southeastern students have to offer.
Alpha Psi Omega encourages anyone interested in becoming involved in the theater program or future events to join the society. It offers opportunities for students of all experience levels to become involved and gain experience in performing arts.
