People of all ages will be able to rediscover their inner child on Saturday, November 14 as the Southeastern Wind Symphony will feature music from the ever famous Disneyland and Disney World theme parks and movies at “The Magical Music of Walt Disney.”
“Included on the program will be music from the movies, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ‘Tangled,’ ‘Aladdin,’ and ‘The Lion King,’ as well as ‘Under the Sea’ from ‘The Little Mermaid,’ ‘You’ll be in my Heart’ from ‘Tarzan’ and ‘Let it Go’ from ‘Frozen,’” said wind symphony director and conductor Glen Hemberger.
The wind symphony hopes this performance will bring the community together as both old and young will be able to enjoy the music.
“The wind symphony is one of the most popular music ensembles in the region, performing outreach concerts at schools in St. Bernard, Ascension, St. Tammany, East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes, as well as concerts for public school age students in the Hammond area,” said Hemberger. “This concert features music that nearly everyone recognizes and that people from ages one through 177 will enjoy. This concert is a critical part of our ongoing message: community outreach and support of public school music programs in Tangipahoa Parish.”
Though the music performed will be different from the past, the group strives to remain consistent in their rehearsal to ensure the same results.
“The preparation for this concert is just like for any other,” said Hemberger. “We try and find good, quality arrangements and perform them at the highest level possible. The wind symphony is devoted to quality, no matter the difficulty level of any piece of music, and we try to always maintain those standards.”
The wind symphony has enjoyed preparing for their upcoming performance and is hoping to make the Disney production an annual event.
“The musicians of the wind symphony are extremely knowledgeable about these movie and theme park music scores,” said Hemberger. “We all are enjoying playing and performing them for what could actually become a yearly event, if it proves popular.”
To fully engage audience members in the Disney experience, various musicians will be dressed as characters, including Snow White, Elsa and Rapunzel, who will be greeting spectators at the door. Hemberger believes it will be an enjoyable event for everyone.
The Disney performance will be held in the Pottle Auditorium, and showtime is at 2:00 p.m. Tickets will be available one hour prior to the show, with general admission being three dollars for all ages, and cash is preferred.
In addition to this, the wind symphony is also planning to host the 29th annual Collage Concert with the Southeastern Wind Symphony on Friday, December 4.
“Over 150 high school musicians will be on hand to hear members of the instrumental faculty, students, and the wind symphony perform a one-hour collage concert, including the Louisiana premieres of new works by composers Samuel Hazo and Will Pitts,” said Hemberger.
