Four days before the opening of “Distracted,” members of Alpha Psi Omega met in the Vonnie Borden Theatre to clean in preparation of the show.
On Friday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m., Bruce Javery II, a junior communication major, began cleaning the theater for the upcoming feature.
Javery was enthusiastic for the cleanup as well as the upcoming production.
“We are cleaning the theater to make sure that it’s pristine and presentable enough for our upcoming production of ‘Distracted,’” said Javery. “I feel it’s important to clean the theater because it’s nice to go into a theater and have it be at its highest peak of excellence.”
As the main stage committee head in APO, Javery believes in satisfying every patron.
“Well the thing about theatre in general is that there are those people who see,” said Javery. “Some people will notice the minute details and some won’t, but in my opinion, it doesn’t matter as long as there’s those people that really do care, really do appreciate the little, minute details and really, thoroughly enjoy the production.”
Javery combed the aisles of the Vonnie Borden Theatre cheerfully singing along to show tunes while workers finished the sets and props for “Distracted.” He walked up and down each aisle multiple times to ensure he did not miss any debris left from the previous production.
“You don’t want to walk into a theater, whether it be for a movie or a play, and have it be dirty or filthy,” said Javery. “It’s kind of off-putting in a sense. So, you want to make sure that everything looks orderly because there are gonna be people who are gonna come in and watch the amazing thing that you have created.”
According to Javery, it is part of the job to clean the theatre after using it.
“I think people should care that we’re cleaning the theatere because with our audiences coming in, we don’t want to turn anybody away,” said Javery. “Plus, even after every show that we do, we always scope the rows for any programs and such left behind. For the artists that are gonna be coming the next night, if we have programs strewn out all over the place, it’s very unprofessional in my opinion.”
Later, other APO members joined Javery in his immaculate endeavors. Together they cleaned the Vonnie Borden Theatre to ensure the success of “Distracted.”
