Do you ever question who you are and how people perceive you based on your personality?
If you feel like this type of information would help you better understand who you are, there is a test, based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which includes a series of certain scenarios asking if you agree or disagree with it to see what kind of personality type a person qualifies as. For people who don’t quite know how they come across in social interactions, this test lets them figure out the type of person they are and learn important and helpful information to understand themselves.
What is the Myers-Briggs personality test though? Why would knowing your personality help in the long haul?
The medical dictionary on thefreedictionary.com defines the test as, “A widely-used personality inventory, or test, employed in vocational, educational, and psychotherapy settings to evaluate personality type in adolescents and adults age 14 and older.”
Its purpose is to help people understand themselves and others better. Recently, in addition to the practicality of knowing how certain people learn a subject or how they will react to how their employers see their organizational skills, it has become useful and productive. In medical aspects, once doctors find out the personality of the patient they are treating, they can better understand the situation because some personalities are more vulnerable to certain personality disorders like depression or anxiety.
The test can help a person learn about themselves because it does more than explain your strengths and weaknesses in-depth. In a way, it makes more sense to the test taker. It also goes into detail about your personality’s type of romantic relationships, friendships, parenthood, career paths and workplace habits.
The Myers-Briggs personality test is helpful because it shows the person who has taken the test that there are other people who are like them. For example, I am a ‘Campaigner’ or ‘Inspirer,’ also known as ENFP, which means I am extroverted, intuitive, feeling and prospecting. These words are put together to say I am a charming, independent, energetic and a compassionate person, but the test also tells me some of my weaknesses such as being highly emotional, which is true in my case.
One really interesting thing the test does is after you finish, it gives you an overview of your personality type. It will give you the percentage of your personality type in the population and gives little tidbits of information that you didn’t know you needed. The overview includes pictures of well-known individuals that you can relate to. Some may include celebrities, fictional characters or scientists.
The test is relatively short and does not take a lot of time, and the accuracy of the personality type you receive may be a tad frightening. However, if it seems like a weird, out of the norm thing to do, it may be more comforting for someone to look over the 16 personality types beforehand, see if one sticks out. Then they can see if they are correct, to make it more of a game. After that, the test might give the test taker a surprising result and be more accurate than what they assumed their personality was.
In the long run I feel this test will help people understand themselves more, especially if they don’t know who they are as a person individually. So, if learning more about the different personality types and how your personality affects the opportunities you may have in the future and your lifestyle is intriguing to you, you can visit www.16personalities.com to take the test and explore.
