As graduating seniors get ready to wrap up their last semester, they were able to pick up all the materials needed for graduation at the semiannual Grad Fair.
This semester’s Grad Fair was held Oct. 8 and 9 and was sponsored by Gamma Beta Phi. It was located at the Alumni Center on North Campus.
Students could go either day to get their cap and gown pictures taken by Candid Campus, purchase Southeastern merchandise provided by the bookstore and discuss class rings with Balfour.
Student Publications set up a booth to hand out the new yearbooks along with copies of the Lion’s Roar newspaper. Students could also get subscription cards to have the newspaper sent to them after graduation.
The photos taken at Grad Fair will be included in next year’s yearbook, which will be available in fall 2015. Graduates can call Student Publications at 985-549-3731 for more information on how or when to pick up their yearbook.
“Grad Fair is a one stop shop for graduating seniors,” said Kathy Pittman, alumni director. “They can order their cap and gown, invitations, rings, take senior photos, et cetera.”
Grad Fair is a milestone that graduation is finally taking place.
“It makes me really excited,” said senior kinesiology major Amanda Engels. “It finally feels like graduation is really happening.”
Students may think that they were only going to take their cap and gown pictures and buy their graduation invitations, but they could also get information on opportunities available after graduation. Students learned that Career Services would still be available for them once they become alumni.
Career Services held a booth at Grad Fair to hand out information on the different things they can do to help, such as offering a resume clinic that was stationed in another room so students could get advice on making their resume more marketable.
“There’s always something here, and I like the fact that there are so many aids to help us with jobs and they’re always trying to promote growth with the students,” said Kendricka Williams, senior human resources major. “They help us learn outside of the classroom. I’m so lucky I’m at Southeastern.”
Students graduating next year will have the opportunity to apply for graduation early and begin receiving their information. The application can be found on the Southeastern page.
