Hall Council awarded a scholarship to sophomore history major Paul Haddican Jr. A native of Marrero, he is the first recipient of the scholarship.
Haddican received the award at the last hall council meeting of the 2015 spring semester.
Haddican currently maintains a 3.4 GPA, while serving as Vice President of Communications for Hall Council and working with youth groups in his hometown. He was given this award because he stood out from the other candidates in his dedication to go above and beyond his responsibilities; as an outstanding member of the hall council. According to Blake Thomas, Haddican went above the minimal job responsibilities and was responsible for communicating with all contacts.
“He was someone you could count on,” said Thomas.
He will be given $500 for the Fall semester and the award will be given annually after.
“I was able to achieve this scholarship by being active with Hall Council, attending all of the meetings and events and being very involved in the planning and implementation of events over the past year,” said Haddican.
It is hoped that this scholarship will not only enhance Hall Council’s recruitment efforts, but also increase the performance of members in order to satisfy the needs and wants of residents. As something that has never been done before and offers great incentive to students to do so.
“This scholarship is allowing me to not have to take out as many loans for next semester,” said Haddican.
It is because of the On Campus Marketing and linen vendor that is used for University Housing that Southeastern’s Hall Council is able to award this scholarship. The On Campus Marketing awarded a $20,000 scholarship to Hall Council, from that they took out an amount of $10,000 to begin this new tradition.
