The golf team finished their seventh tournament of the season with a team score of 25-over par, the highest score of the season.

The Lions competed at the Colin Montgomerie Houston Baptist University Invitational on Feb. 26 and 27 in Spring, Texas where the team tied in 10th place with Prairie View A&M University. The team improved their score by two strokes from the last invitational.

Junior William Meyers, who scored a 6-over par at the tournament, discussed what challenged him most at this course.

“The most difficult aspect of the course was the smaller greens and the wind,” said Meyers. “I grew up playing on bigger, wider greens, and these greens were fairly small. Also, as always when playing in Texas, it’s always blowing harder than Louisiana.”

Junior Joris Etlin had the highest score of the tournament, earning an even-par score through the three rounds. Meyers earned the second highest score of the team. Freshman Logan Kuehn, freshman Kristofer Kerr and sophomore Connor Wilson earned a score of 13-over par for the tournament.

Head Coach Jake Narro talked about his goals moving forward in the season.

“Our goal is to win the Southland Conference Championship,” said Narro. “The other primary goal throughout the year is to steadily increase from this event to the last.”

Meyers talked about the goals that he and the team hope to achieve later this season.

“Coach and I have definitely gone over some personal goals we look forward to completing, but we are mostly focused on finding how we can win a conference championship and what ways we can work towards that,” said Meyers. “We have a really solid team with Joris playing great and the two new freshman, Logan and Kris, who are really starting to settle in and play how they can. We are working to find who will fill the role as the 5th spot, and once we do that, I think we can do a lot of damage in conference.”
