Lion’s athletics promotions have created a way for students to earn points every time they Lion Up this fall.
Students can now earn Lion Up Loyalty Points by downloading the app and attending a sporting event on campus. The earned points can be cashed in on point redemption days at the Student Union, and they can get prizes such as Southeastern apparel, tailgating gear and possibly free meals from sponsors like Raising Cane’s.
“Lion Up Loyalty is our new Student Fan Experience app that allows students to be involved in Southeastern Athletics more than just swiping their Student IDs at the gates,” said coordinator of student marketing & promotions Lindsey Cramer. “It uses geofencing technology to allow them to check into a venue and earn points for their stay. We decide on the amount of points based off of the promotion, the opponent and the anticipated crowd.”
The app also works for student organizations as well.
“Students should sign-up for the app and make sure they fill out their profile thoroughly,” said Cramer. “They can earn points toward any student organization they’re involved in as well as attend as many Lion Up Loyalty events as they can to stack up their points.”
The promotions for athletics constantly look for new ways to get the students involved in every sporting event on campus.
“My assistant and myself get together throughout the year and think of new and innovative things to pitch toward the student body,” said Cramer. “Once we get a few ideas brainstormed, we meet with the head coaches from each sport and propose the promotions to see if they would like it at their event.”
Cramer believes that promotions are a big part of what makes athletics special.
“I think having promotions are important because it can enhance the athletic experience to sports fans,” said Cramer. “Even if students aren’t into sports, we want to show them that the event can still be a good time.”
A lot of students do not go to sporting events because they are not interested in what is happening on the court or on the field. Athletic promotions does raffles, throws T-shirts and gives away a lot of free stuff to get students more interested.
“I hear a lot of students tell me that they don’t come to events because they may not understand the game,” said Cramer. “But, we don’t want that to be the case. We want them to feel comfortable learning the sport and having a good time while they do it. If that means providing a student with a new T-shirt and some pizza as simple as it may be, that’s what we’ll do. ”
The Lion Up Loyalty app is already available and students can start collecting points as soon as they add the app and swipe their ID at a game.
“I’m really into the idea of our Lion Up Loyalty app,” said Cramer. “Because students have their phones with them everywhere, so why not interact with them face-to-face and electronically.”
