More than 120 local and national companies will be searching for future employees at Southeastern’s annual Career Fair.
This year, Career Fair is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Pennington. The fair is open to all university students, but the fair is mainly intended for students within three semesters of graduating and alumni.
Students are required to wear business casual attire, however professional attire is strongly recommended. To enter the event, an ID is required.
“There’s a registration desk when you first walk into the gates and you’ll be handed a layout that shows every employer present and where each employer is located,” said career counselor Beverly Sellers. “It will seem overwhelming when you first walk in because the event is stretched over three basketball courts, but after awhile you will start to get comfortable.”
Students can also network with different employers from different companies. Networking could expand their opportunities in the future or lead to full-time careers or internships.
Not only is this event great for networking, but it also serves as practice for students who are not currently looking for a full-time job or internship. Students will have an opportunity to participate in mock interviews and will also be able to schedule real interviews with prospective businesses while attending Career Fair.
Students can expect to see numerous employers seeking to fill available positions within their businesses. Employers are looking for professionally dressed students and alumni who have a well written résumé already in hand, and are determined to find out more about potential employers.
“Employers tend to prefer one page résumés,” said Sellers. “As a career counselor, I encourage students to have a skills section and that is where you can highlight key qualifications that you have.”
Students should come prepared with intelligent and important questions and expect to receive highly informative descriptions on exactly what each company and business is looking for in a potential employee.
