Campus Activities Board played a big part in getting students excited for Halloween this past week.

CAB hosted a pumpkin carving event on Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. until they ran out of pumpkins in the Student Union Breezeway. Students were able to choose from pumpkins of various sizes and could carve them and decorate them with paint.

“Well let’s see, we started with 200 little ones and 16 big ones, and we’ve already gone back to the store once to get more big ones,” said CAB Event Manager McKenzie Tolson. “I think they got 41 little ones, and they just left to go back again.”

CAB is responsible for most of the activities that happen on campus. In light of the quickly approaching holiday, CAB decided to do something a little different from past activities to celebrate Halloween.

“Just something to get, you know, people in the Halloween mood,” said CAB Marketing Manager Griffin Hakenjos.

All of the materials, including the pumpkins, were bought by CAB.

“We got them from Albertson’s whenever they got a big shipment in,” said Tolsen. “We bought them all so that way we could just give them out to people.”

The event began to attract a lot of students, so CAB had to go out and buy more pumpkins to help make the event last until 4 p.m.

“We did have to make a few trips to Albertson’s but it worked out pretty good and Albertson’s, was really awesome,” said CAB Event Manager and Graphic Designer Alyssa Arceneaux.”

Arceneaux was responsible for the idea of pumpkin carving and played a big part in the event.

“It’s a first time since I’ve been at CAB that we’ve done a pumpkin carving and I think it went pretty good,” said Arceneaux. “Like, a lot of people got to carve pumpkins.”

Students were able to put their artistic skills to work in this activity.

“I carved one before, but I think this is more fun cause like there’s more people,” said Kaila Rentas, a freshman marketing major.

Rentas heard about the event from campus social media pages.

“From Twitter actually, from Southeastern CAB,” said Rentas.  “Yeah, I said I wanted to do this, and I made all my friends and my boyfriend come. I said ‘I wanna carve a pumpkin, I wanna paint a pumpkin.’”

Students were able to carve anything they wanted into their pumpkins and paint it however they wanted.

“Well, I know I like the color pink, and I’m creative so I just said, ‘okay well I want to do pink, but I want the pink to be seen. I didn’t want to just do a pink pumpkin,’” said Rentas. “So I did it black and just paint splattered it pink.”
