Flipbook’s Halloween event included an art contest, costume contest, a food potluck and a screening of Twilight Zone.
Their event was held Halloween night in the 2D design lab and started at 5:30 p.m. in East Stadium Room 140.
Flipbook is a new media and animation club on campus that makes short films.
“As a club, we get into groups and make animations, films,” said Vice President of Flipbook Jordan Clark, a junior art major with a concentration in new media and animation. “I started off doing story board animation, but now I wrote a script.”
The club got the word out about their event by making their own flyers.
“We made flyers and went out and printed like 100 copies and handed them out to people, hung them up everywhere, made sure people were informed of it,” said Clark.
The officers of Flipbook held a meeting where they brainstormed ideas for the event and asked the members what they would like to do.
“Before the officers meeting, we asked club members what they wanted to do and some suggested a costume party,” said Clark. “We were for that. We were maybe going to do two big events, two small events. The big events were the art competition, which somebody suggested, and the costume contest. The smaller events were the potluck and the screening of Twilight Zone.”
Clark came up with a theme that acted as a guideline for any of the members that wanted to enter the art contest.
“As the officers, we figured out what our theme was going to be and I said, ‘Oh, cryptids, because it’s Halloween,’” said Clark.
The cryptid art contest had a total of five entries. Kailyn Beck, a freshman art major tied for first place and the other winner was Talynn Reigene Belle, a freshman art major, with her interpretation of the Jersey Devil.
“I won an art contest, and we had to draw cryptids which is like urban legends, like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, but it had to be our interpretation,” said Beck. “I was very proud of it. I literally did it last night. I know that sounds bad, but I did it in like three hours.”
Kelly Gilson, a junior art major with a concentration in new media and animation, won runner-up in the art contest and won People’s Choice in the costume contest.
Another costume contest winner was Cameron Pittman, a freshman art major with a concentration in new media and animation who won Best Costume dressed as Strong Bad.
“I basically have worn the same costume for at least three years and it’s always right there in case it’s like, ‘Oh, I forgot to get a costume,’” said Pittman.
Most Authentic Costume was given to Chad Murray, a freshman art major, who dressed as a zombie.
All the contest winners were awarded candy.
