Campus dining options expand to offer more variety in fall semester

The Mane Dish is a dining facility located on the second floor of the War Memorial Student Union. The Mane Dish offers a variety of food options to students year round. With many different food stations, they offer several meal choices from healthy eating to regional foods. Marketing Coordinator of dining services Fallon Myers explains all the changes happening to dining facilities for this semester. Some new additions were made to the dining services offered on campus.

“Pizza Hut has replaced Popeyes this fall semester, and then we opened up Subway café over in Tinsley Hall, and Quiznos has been closed down due to the entire building being under construction,” said Myers. “Those are probably the top three dining updates that we have for this fall semester.”

Junior computer science major Meagan Gioe enjoys both the atmosphere and food offered at the Mane Dish.

“Campus dining is a very enjoyable experience that I believe everyone on campus should try at least once in their college career,” said Gioe. “It provides a pleasant atmosphere for a group of close friends to have a high quality meal.”

The Mane Dish incorporates special dining events to offer students fun eating experiences to liven up their college days. The upcoming dining events for the fall semester include a Wing Night on Sept. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m., Student Choice Event on Sept. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m., Oktoberfest on Oct. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m., Tricked Out Treats on Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thanksgiving Day Feast on Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Late Night Breakfast on Dec. 5 from 9-11 p.m. Offering exciting dining events for each month provides students with an even wider food selection throughout the semester. One of the dining events that has been held before and was a success among collegians was the Late Night Breakfast. Normally, the breakfast selection closes at 10:30 a.m. However, in December, Late Night Breakfast is held during finals week to help students de-stress from studying. At the fall 2016 Late Night Breakfast, the line to the event started at the Mane Dish entrance and wound down the stairs to the west exit of the union.

Gioe was one of those students lined up for breakfast, and she had waited in line for an hour for the Late Night Breakfast.

“One of my favorite experiences with campus dining was the night breakfast around finals,” said Gioe. “Myself and a few of my friends went and had a blast eating the cafe’s crispy bacon and fluffy eggs. It was a nice little break from the stress of my upcoming finals.”

The university’s dining services are continuously expanding and offering a variety of food for students, and with the addition of two new dining facilities and themed dinners the dining, services are always creating dining opportunities that will spice up campus eating.
