“Career Fair” is an event that students can attend and find job opportunities. Students can create connections with employers.

Delecia Cann who works in human resources at the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge government was at the “Career Fair.”

Cann says her favorite part of the event is seeing the students dress professionally.

“I hope students learn that there is a wealth of opportunity out there for them, that there is a lot for them to do with their majors, a lot of occupational transitions they can make,” said Cann. “Try not to be complacent and find yourself in this one hole. There is a whole world out there to take advantage of.”

Mary Kay Inc. was also at the “Career Fair.” Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant Stephanie Dawsey talks about why she enjoys the potential the students bring to a company and getting to connect with them.

“We look for women who are excited to try something new,” said Dawsey. “If they are interested in marketing and business then they would be more interested in this. We love people who are positive, friendly and have a great attitude. I love that when we come to ‘Career Fair’ we get to meet people from all different backgrounds and different majors. I love networking with people because you never know, they may need a job or products. I want students to know that there are a lot of opportunities other than just working in an office.”

Senior D’Anna Williams went to the “Career Fair” in hopes of finding a job.

“My favorite part about the ‘Career Fair’ is they bring all these businesses directly to us,” said Williams. “It kinda helps with the search, so you don’t have to go and look at all these different websites. It’s all right here for us. I hope to build connections and possibly get a job or an internship. I cleaned up my very poor resume, and I made sure I looked professional and was ready to talk.”

Senior Samuel Tomaszewski was at the fair in hopes of expanding his network.

“Having the chance to meet local businesses, to see what they’re offering and what they’re looking for as well in us, Southeastern students,” said Tomaszewski. “I came to expand my horizon. I graduate this semester, so I’m looking to network to see what kind of options are out there for me. I hope to find jobs in the local area from today and see what they’re looking for in my major.”

According to Tomaszewski, one way he prepared for this event was updating his professional wardrobe.

“I told myself at the beginning of this, I have to put myself out there, it’s my time to shine, and make yourself marketable,” said Tomaszewski.

Cann shares her hopes for the students who attended “Career Fair.”

“We look for energetic students who are eager to learn and to start their future,” said Cann. “We look for students who are willing to bite the bullet, you know, just interested in moving forward with their future.”
