The Student Technology Center (STC) offers a variety of technological services to students and is located in Fayard Hall, rooms 126 and 129.
“What we try to do here at the center is let students know that we are kind of like a ‘one stop shop’ for their technology needs,” said Student Technology Lab Coordinator Clarissa Sampey. “If their laptop at home doesn’t work, they can come by here and use one for a week or so. If you need to print-in color, black and white-come by here. If you have a technical question, because your phone is not accepting mail or something is going on with setting up your phone, come by here. In general, we’re trying to give students one place where they can come when they have questions about technology here at Southeastern.”
Students can also use computers in the computer labs and check out equipment, known as Mane Media, in the technology center. Students can check out equipment for a maximum of seven consecutive days and must fill out an application and get a faculty sponsor beforehand.
Mane Media offers laptops, digital video cameras, digital cameras, tripods and projectors to be checked out by students. More information about Mane Media can be found on the STC website.
“We also have the student help desk which is another service we have for students where they can call in or come by and receive technical assistance when they’re having difficulties with a course in Moodle or Blackboard, problem with their LeoNet accounts, problem with Gmail, in general their account information,” said Sampey. “That’s 24-hour support over the telephone.”
Another service offered at the Student Technology Center is a computer lab that seats 74 and is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight.
There is also one-on-one technology training available to students. Information on this can be found on their website. They also offer training for Moodle for all students and staff.
“At the Moodle login page there is a ‘student links’ block that has ‘Moodle Training,'” said Sampey. “This link is pointing to a 100 percent online, self-paced Moodle training course that students and staff can self-enroll into in order to learn how to use Moodle.”
For students interested in working at the STC, applications are available on their website. Openings are posted on the Student Employment Network on the Work Study website, but applications are always being accepted.
“The cost of this operation is paid out of TechFee,” said Dr. Mike Asoodeh, Chief Information Officer and professor in the department of computer science and industrial technology. “The students pay a $5 Tech Fee for each credit hour, up to 20. This fee pays for many other services including printing.”
