Tangi Crime Stoppers will be hosting the fifth annual Tangi and St. Helena Night Out Against Crime on Sept. 28 at Zemurray Park in Hammond.
There will be a Kickin’ It to Crime Fun Run and Walk and a CST Poker Run at Harley Davidson where anything with wheels can ride. From 12-4 p.m. in Zemurray Park, there will be a hot wing cook-off challenge where participants get to be the judges.
“You can run or walk or whatever you want; it’s just for fun,” said Director of Crime Stoppers Jodie Rohmer.
To close off the long day, night out booths will be open and law enforcement demonstrations will be going on.
Games, music and food will be available from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. including a rock climbing wall, dunk-a-deputy and a disc jokey. All proceeds go to support Tangi Crime Stoppers.
“Many people think the money goes to the rewards for criminals,” said Rohmer, “but that is not true. The money raised goes to support Tangi Crime Stoppers’ many awareness programs.”
The money raised will specifically go towards their Community Crime Prevention program. A couple of their popular groups are the Keeping Every Youth Safe (KEYS) Alliance and the Neighborhood Watch.
The Tangi Crime Stoppers also uses the fundraising money to put on presentations for groups such as the elderly, children and youth groups. There is also a public safety presentation as well as an end of the year school bash planned in the future.
The day begins with Kickin’ it to Crime Fun Run & Walk with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the park, or online pre-registration is available at their website tangicrimestoppers.com/events.
Forms are online as well as the option to pay the $25 registration fee online. Only participants who pre-register are guaranteed a T-shirt, otherwise it is a first come, first serve basis.
