The University Police Department will be holding Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) classes for women on campus.
RAD classes are to take place Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5. The classes will be held on campus; however, the exact location will only be released to students who register for the classes in order to preserve confidentiality.
“I feel it is important to offer these classes to the women of the Southeastern community so women will be able to learn awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training,” said Scott Huff, University Police officer.
The classes are designed to teach women to effectively defend themselves against assault and rape.
“The Rape Aggression Defense system is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense/martial arts tactics,” said Huff. “Our system of realistic defense will provide a woman with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance.”
Registration for the class is free to current Southeastern students. Faculty and non-students must pay a $25 fee in order to participate in the class. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted to receive defense training.
Space is limited, so it is recommended that those who wish to participate in the RAD class register early. To register for a RAD class, email your name and phone number to [email protected].
