The Greek Lunch, meant to be held Monday, March 11 at the Student Union Park was canceled due to rain.
Students, instead of enjoying a lunch with their fellow peers, were forced to trudge from class to class hidden underneath umbrellas for most of Monday morning and early afternoon.
“We canceled it because of the rain,” said Chris Simoneaux, Secretary of Order of Omega. “We cannot control Mother Nature.”
The event was planned by the Order of Omega, although not much in food preparation was lost from the cancelation of the event due to the fact that food was to be brought by each student.
“We had a money issue because we are a small organization we could not provide lunch for everybody,” said Simoneaux. “So what we did was just compromise and [planned to] set up tables and chairs and makes it a chill out place in the Student Union Park.”
The event was meant to show the student population what it is to be Greek and hopefully get rid of many stereotypes.
“We got together as an organization and decided we need to do something new that promoted Greek life here at Southeastern and make non-Greek students realize how Greek it is to be Greek and kill the negative about being Greek and the stereotypes associated with them,” said Simoneaux about planning the event.
Students will have to take the extra leap in ridding negative stereotypes about Greek life since this event was not there to back it up.
“At least we had something planned that was different, but you cannot control the weather,” said Simoneaux.
