Bringing Lion Pride from day one

An invasion of pride has entered Southeastern’s community, led by 23 Orientation Leaders.
On Wednesday, April 3 select students invited to Southeastern’s early orientation program joined together to experience campus life firsthand. The 2013 Orientation Leaders, which include 21 new leaders, and two returning members, led this group in their first few days on campus.
One of the new members to the Orientation Leaders, Chase Cole, a freshman majoring in nursing, was especially enthusiastic about his involvement as he is enjoying the opportunity to welcome our next freshman class.
“This is one the things I feel like I was destined to do because I love meeting people, socializing and mingling with everybody,” Cole said. “I just love the fact of like getting to know the students and being more involved. “
This program is not solely about fun, as the Orientation Leaders have a legacy of pride to share with our incoming freshmen.
Orientation Leaders participated in the 2013 Southern Regional Orientation Workshop to showcase their energy and enthusiasm, especially in their performance in the Song, Skit and Dance Competition, in which they shared information about campus through their versions of popular songs, such as the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.”
Jacob Stagray, a sophomore majoring in Biology shared his goal of influencing the future students, as he entered the early orientation week as not only a leader, but also an entertainer.
“I like being able to sing, dance and act and entertain the new generation because in essence, they are going to be shaping our future, so it’s all about them and how they perceive us,” said Stagray.
Many of the program’s features are familiar to current Southeastern students, as the color teams and competitions remain one of the highlights of orientation. As well, incoming students participated in an ice cream social where they viewed many of the organizations offered on campus.
With six more orientation programs offered for the Fall 2013 semester, the 2013 Orientation Leaders are energized and prepared to plant the first seeds of pride in our incoming freshmen.
“I think that orientation adds pride to our community and that a lot of the students lack that student pride. I think the orientation leaders are voluntarily prideful of our school and we want others to be prideful as well,” said Cole.
