The Campus Activities Board (CAB) hosted Live at the Oak in Friendship Circle from 7-10 p.m. Friday, which offered a “Video Foam Dance Party,” a tailgate raffle, a washer board tournament and free food.
Live at the Oak is a traditional Southeastern event held every Friday night before a home game with the purpose of giving students the opportunity to have fun and get excited for the upcoming game.
“We’re just trying to give the students a good college experience,” said Todd McElroy, coordinator of CAB. “We want to get them [students] out, let them have a good time and give them an opportunity to interact with each other.”
This was the first time that CAB has offered a foam party as a part of the Live at the Oak event. Mike’s Dog House catered the party.
“I think it’s a great event to get students together,” said freshmen Khalil Zaher, majoring in nursing and student-worker for CAB. “If we could get the word out a little better it’d be even better. It’s great for students to come out here and not be out partying, to just have clean fun and a chance to win prizes and get free food. “
Zaher has been working for CAB for about a month and says he enjoys working with the organization because it’s a fun job.
Students really enjoyed the addition of the foam party. Some claimed it brought out the little kid in them.
“I feel like a little kid taking a bath, or like a little shower,” said sophomore Cynthia Harris, a biology major. “We’re all jumping around blowing bubbles. I like the bubbles. I think we should have more foam parties.”
The students seemed to agree that more people should attend this event.
“I honestly think that everyone should attend this,” said freshman Chris Brouillette, a physics major. “It’s a good opportunity to meet people and get free food.”
Some students thought very highly of the Live at the Oak event.
“It’s a really fun thing to do,” said freshmen Matt Schwingshakl, majoring in criminal justice. “It’s a good thing for all the students just to have fun. You know, it’s college life and they should just have fun.”
“Friday night live at the oaks is a fun way for students to enjoy each other’s company at southeastern and have a good time dancing and playing games,” said sophomore Claire Salinas, majoring in communications.
Despite the fact that many students head home for the weekend, it was a well-attended event.
“It seems to be a good turnout,” said McElroy. “Everyone seems to be having a good time, which was the main goal of the evening. I call it a success.”
This event was advertised through flyers placed throughout campus, Facebook and word of mouth. Upcoming Live at the Oak events will be held Oct. 21 and Nov. 4.
