The Lions baseball team fought but lost to the Tulane University Green Wave 15-14.

The teams competed on April 9 at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The loss dropped the Lions’ overall record to 16-17.

The game ended with a Lions player caught stealing second base.

“It’s tough to swallow,” said Matt Riser, head coach of baseball. “It’s a guy with very little experience, and that’s on me because he wasn’t prepared to be in there. Every player on this team has a role, and they got to be ready at any point in time in the ball game to go in there and be able to execute.”

Cody Grosse, a senior infielder, led the team with four runs batted in.

“I felt pretty relaxed just trying to do as much as I can for the team,” expressed Grosse. “I’ve been feeling pretty good, and I just been trying to carry it over every day.”

Throughout the game, the Lions climbed back from deficits but lost the game.

“We need to make this a positive,” shared Riser. “It’s tough right now because obviously it was an emotional game with the back and forths, but I told them this could be detrimental for us for the weekend where we feel sorry for ourselves, and we come out lull tomorrow and lull on Thursday with practice, or we can use it as a positive.”
