Students were pinned by their parents at the “Senior Colloquium.” The event served as a send-off for the senior communication majors.

Senior communication majors were honored at the “Senior Colloquium” as they defended their theses.

Held from 5 – 8:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom, the colloquium included a recognition ceremony and thesis defense sessions.

Jessica Bowen, a senior communication major, and Lorraine Weiskopf, a senior communication major, received the Outstanding Communication Senior Thesis award. Amanda Kitch, a senior communication major, was awarded the first ever Television Achievement Award for her service to the Southeastern Channel.

Cabrina Gordon, master of ceremonies, addressed the graduates during the event.

“These students have worked tremendously hard,” stated Gordon. “They have dedicated months to their research, and I, as well as a lot of alumni who are here tonight, understand firsthand how difficult that is,” said Gordon. “On behalf of the communication and media studies department, we would like to say that we are very proud of you all and wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.”

Jordan Colona, a graduate student, discussed what students can expect from the colloquium.

Colona said, “It’s really a great event to look forward to, writing this paper, and I think it can be nerve-racking, but once you get here to this point at the colloquium, you’re done, and you get to defend your topic.”
