You know, it was unimaginable to see the person I am today when I was fresh out of high school and took the entrance exam to enroll in my first class.
Once, I was a music major, uncertain, anxious and always cautious about how I was viewed by others, while not understanding who I was or what I wanted to be.
I never thought I would see myself in this position when I started working for The Lion’s Roar, and I am honored to be the new editor-in-chief to continue keeping The Lion’s Roar a news source students can trust.
Ever since joining The Lion’s Roar in 2024, I have had one goal in mind: to find a career I enjoy so much that it feels like I don’t have to work a day in my life, one that connects to my passions and is useful.
Never would I have thought in a million years that mindset would guide me to a leadership position on campus. However, the opportunity has opened the door to many experiences my younger self wouldn’t have believed I’d have.
To many, being the editor-in-chief of the student paper may not sound like much, but it’s a role I didn’t know represented so much more than just a newspaper.
Before I joined The Lion’s Roar, I was just your average student struggling to decide my future, frustrated because everybody seemed so far ahead in school and life than I was.
Especially as a music major, feeling like an imposter in a room full of artists, watching friends gradually disappear and experiencing the pressure of feeling like you needed to know everything in that very moment.
I never had the greatest self-confidence, at least until I changed my major and joined The Lion’s Roar, where my love of sports and my many other interests helped me actually make connections.
Stepping into this position, even if it’s only for a semester, I’m here to deliver news our students can trust and give a voice to those who want to see change or share their stories.
Going into my last semester, there is so much I want to change and tell the world, and I know there are others around me who feel the same.
Although my tenure as editor-in-chief is short, I know the next person who follows will succeed as our crew at The Lion’s Roar is here to give students the voice they want and need.
With that being said, today I am someone who is outspoken, independent-minded, defiant and excited to be your editor-in-chief for the fall semester.
