Theta Nu chapter of TKE suspended until 2013

The National Headquarters of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity has reported that Southeastern’s Theta Nu chapter of the fraternity has been suspended until 2013.
“The information is pretty limited,” said Thomas McAninch, director of communication at the Headquarters. “It’s obvious that the university found them in violation of the rules of Greek Life and took steps they felt were appropriate. Headquarters wasn’t involved, so we’re doing what we can on our end in the, for lack of a better term, aftermath.”
According to McAninch, the chapter was originally suspended until 2014, but appealed to the Office of Student Conduct to have that time reduced by one year. When asked by The Lion’s Roar about the cause of the suspension, the Office of Student Conduct declined to comment.
However, Theta Nu will not simply wait for their suspension to expire. According to McAninch, the fraternity will have to participate in several programs to get back into the university’s good graces.
“There’s a number of things that they have to do to regain their standing. Some programs will be with us, like our Blueprint program. Others will be with the university,” said McAninch. “Blueprint teaches everything from simple time management to being a positive role model; it isn’t pass or fail. It’s a complete program.”
McAninch also said that volunteers from Headquarters, and possibly the university, will work with the deposed chapter to ensure that this situation will not repeat itself in the future.
“The unfortunate reality is that sometimes people make mistakes,” he said. “The best thing to do is face those mistakes and make sure they don’t happen again.”
