The National Pan-Hellenic Council will be holding their annual Greek Showcase on Wed. Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Theater with free admission to the student body.
All NPHC Greek organizations will participate in the Greek showcase, which includes, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc.
Because the showcase is during Black History month, it will showcase historical aspects of the NPHC, according to Auriell Celestine, president of the NPHC and member of Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc.
“Since it [the showcase] falls during black history month, it is really to focus on the history of our organizations because it is black history,” said Celestine.
Celestine shared some information about the events that will be happening at the showcase.
“Some people’s performances will have a skit to it, but it will mostly reflect on black history,” said Celestine. “Most of the steps will involve chants telling the history of the organization.”
The NPHC are doing things a little differently for this showcase.
“People [Greeks] will be performing and stepping, but actually educating people [students] on their organization,” said Celestine.
Celestine does not want the event to become weighed down by competition.
“It is not about competition, one of the main focuses this year is Greek unity.”
Celestine also explained the showcase and why it is not a competition. This showcase will be more about information and unity.
“It is a chance for all of us [Greeks] to be together and inform students,” said Celestine. “We are trying to make the bond amongst the organizations stronger, so we can really promote unity.”
Thomas Moore, a senior business management major and president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., talked about the showcase and how it will be presented.
“The showcase happens in order of founding years,” said Moore. “When an organization gets up on stage, it is to teach you about why the fraternities and sororities were even founded, the purpose behind it, the meaning behind it, and why they chose that organization.”
The showcase is presented to spark interest within the student body.
“It is a way to get the student body interested into our organizations,” said Moore.
The NPHC wants the student body to come out and learn more about the NPHC Greek Organizations on campus.
“I really want it to be a big turnout,” said Celestine.
