    Orientation 2011 has begun

Southeastern held the Early Orientation Program from April 27-28 for future students who have received a scholarship or an ACT score of 24 or higher. More than 375 future students attended the Early Orientation Program.

Each orientation program is a university wide event, relying on every department on campus to be able to put on a successful orientation program. Just like other orientation programs over the years, the Early Orientation was a two day program comprised of academic advising, course registration, social interaction with both current and future students and getting the new students acclimated for their first year experience.

The Early Orientation was fun and successful for all who attended.

“I personally think that this one went better than our Early Orientation program last year,” said two year Orientation Leader Rebekah Rovira. “Everyone brought their ‘A’ game for spirit, and if that is an indication of how the summer programs are going to be, our incoming freshman and the Southeastern student body is in for a real treat.”

Everyone involved in making each orientation a success is very excited about the upcoming 2011 orientations. There are five separate Summer Orientations held each year. Invitations for the first Summer Orientation were sent out in late April and will begin in mid-June. The rest of the Summer Orientations will be held periodically until late July. While there have been some program advances for the 2011 Orientation Programs, there have been no major changes to the plans for each day.

According to Orientation Leader Jordan Leggett, the orientation leaders will continue with tons of spirit competitions and games to get the future students feeling eager about coming to Southeastern.  For the Summer Orientations, they are working to enhance and focus on our transfer program to make their transition to a new school much better.

“Hopefully, the Summer Orientations will provide incoming students with a positive, informative and welcoming first experience at Southeastern.  I believe that we can make students feel comfortable; like they have found their second home,” said Orientation Leader Jacqueline Weimer. “I also anticipate growing even closer to this year’s team in the upcoming months; it’s hard to comprehend the fact that we all met just a few short months ago, and we already know too much about each other.  That being said, we will each be able to help one another grow not only as leaders, but as people.”

The orientation program is looking forward to, once again, putting almost 3,000 people through their freshman orientation. For Summer Orientation Program dates, itineraries or any other information, visit the orientation Web site www.selu.edu/orientation or call 985-549-5637.
