Homecoming week will be starting soon at Southeastern and the annual parade will be included in the event schedule. On Homecoming Day, Saturday, Nov. 5, the Homecoming Parade will make its way through campus. The theme of Homecoming this year is “Roomie Takes a Road Trip,” according to Student Government Association President Luke Holloway.
“Different organizations have selected several different locations around the United States to use in their floats,” said Holloway. “There should be a lot of great places represented,”
SGA has scheduled to begin the float line up at 2:30 p.m. The parade will tentatively start at the University Center/North General Pershing Street Extension and travel south on North General Pershing Street to Alumni Field. The parade will then turn east on West Dakota Street and travel to the Southeastern Hall lot.
The parade will turn north on North Oak Street and will then turn west on Western Avenue, and travel along the North side of Friendship Circle (closest to Pottle Hall), continuing to the 4-way stop near the University Residence. The parade will turn north on North General Pershing Street to the University Center. The parade will end at the University Center/North General Pershing Street Extension. The parade route is pending city approval.
Participants in the parade include Southeastern’s Spirit of the Southland marching band, the 2011 Homecoming court and the newly crowned Miss Southeastern 2012 Olivia Ruby.
“Right now, we are still in the stages of organizing who all is riding. Of course the court, and Miss Southeastern,” Holloway said.
