    Partition shows student talent

Bright talents revealed themselves under a half moon at the fourth annual talent show  hosted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The show, “Partition: a division of different talents,” included singing, rapping, dancing and poetry.
The event took place Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Strawberry Stadium. The show was hosted by Shoosh, a popular Instagram comedian with over 250 thousand followers.
The winners included Jiah Jefferson who won third place for her rendition of “Diary” by Alicia Keys, Keith Tillman  who placed second for his performance of “All of Me” by John Legend and Amber Holmes who earned first place for her recital of “Ambitious Girl, a self-written poem.”
Three judges evaluated the performances and the audience voted Tillman for the People’s Choice Award winner.
“The whole show was very successful,” said Thomas Moore, a senior business management major. “You had a lot of the campus come out and support NAACP. You had a great event put on by NAACP. The results were a little shocking; the guy who the crowd thought should win was placed second. The lady who did win had an awesome poem. The judges had a tough decision to go through, but the show was very successful. I believe the people enjoyed themselves and the host did a great job keeping the crowd entertained.”
The first place winner, Amber Holmes enjoyed her experience in the competition.
“I was so nervous and I knew God had a purpose for me to go up there and do that,” said Holmes, a freshman biology major. “I know I made the auditions for a reason and I’m happy that people got to hear [my poem] and that I can share them with somebody. Those were sincere words from my heart. I don’t write often, but when I do write it’s about something that happened in my life or how I feel about something. That’s how I felt. I talked about how my father wasn’t a part of my life, about how I’m in school, about how I want to be better and how my mom drives me. That’s why I’m doing this.”
An after party was held in the Kinesiology Building following the show.
