Administration and Finance gets new interim director

After 17 years of dedication and hard work,  Sam Domiano was approved by the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System on April 24 to assume the position of Interim Vice President for Administration and Finance.
“Southeastern has afforded me tremendous opportunities, each allowing me to grow both as a person and professional,” said Domiano. “It is my sincere hope that in some small way I have given back to an institution that has given me so much.”
During Domiano’s time with Southeastern he has held six different titles, including his recently obtained position. After completing his MBA in 1995, he began his career in University Housing as an Area Coordinator. He then moved on to serve as the Director of the Student Union and Director of Career Services. He returned to Auxiliary Services for a short time before becoming Director of New Student Enrollment and Student Aid, a position he held for six years. Domiano was named Assistant Vice President for Operations in January 2008 and retained the position until last month when he was named Interim Vice President for Administration and Finance.
“I have never approached any of the positions I have held with expectations,” said Domiano. “Instead, I was just thankful for the opportunity, committed to working hard, and focused on what’s most important, our students.”
In response to being asked how he planned to address budgeting and other financial issues, Domiano explained his position in serving as a resource to the President and other members of the executive team.
“We have a responsibility to provide accurate data in a timely and efficient manner to enable the President and others to make sound decisions in the best interest of the University,” said Domiano. “At Southeastern, we are fortunate to have a President and leadership team that possess the vision and experience necessary to continue to move the University forward regardless of the challenge or circumstance.”
Domiano explained the department’s approach to budgeting issues and general lack of finalities.
“At this time, we are unaware of what the final allocation of state appropriations will be in FY2012-2013,” said Domiano. “We are continuing to follow the developments of the executive budget as well as other legislation that could impact the University’s operating budget.”
While Domiano is currently serving as the Interim Vice President, a national search is in place to fill the Vice President’s position on a more permanent basis.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Southeastern in this interim capacity and my goal at this time is to serve Southeastern and, most importantly, our students to the best of my ability,” said Domiano.
Domiano approaches the new position as a privilege to serve the University in a greater way.
“I am humbled by the opportunity,” said Domiano.  “I am also excited by the challenge of the new role.”
While Domiano stays busy working and serving Southeastern, he spends the weekends with his wife, Lindsay Domiano, who serves as a nursing instructor at Southeastern, and his two elementary age sons, who both currently attend Holy Ghost Catholic School.
“The boys are very involved in both school and sports, so it would not be unusual for us to spend some weeknights and our weekends at ballparks,” said Domiano. “When they are not playing, we enjoy supporting our Southeastern Lions by attending as many of their sporting events as possible.”
