The University Police Department is investigating a report of a device used to destroy a mailbox at a residence on West Dakota Street. It was reported that a homemade device utilizing chemicals to produce rapid expansion was placed in a residential mailbox some time between 11:00 PM last night and 2:00 AM this morning. The mailbox was badly damaged but no one in the home was awoken or injured.
No messages or threats were sent in relation to the event and the home owner did not know of anyone who would have intent to harm anyone in the home or why anyone would have taken such action for any reason.
