    Part-Time Job Fair 2013

The part-time job fair sponsored by Career Services brought over 30 employers to campus on Thursday, Aug. 29 in the Southeastern War Memorial Student Union.
Employers ranged from Coca-Cola Refreshments to the United States Air Force with the Student Union filled with students looking for part-time work.
The job options were not just for students in the Hammond area; commuters were also welcome.
“Today we are looking for sales people and grill operators, which are basically waitresses and waiters,” said Leslie Holder, Area People Director for Waffle House. “We’re looking for all of our Hammond locations and anywhere on the Northshore for people who are commuting; we’re always hiring and always looking to grow our staff.”
Another employer, Avon Products, said they were looking to hire students, but also provide a learning experience at the same time.
“We are looking for sales representatives and for them to learn entrepreneurship and build a business,” said Avon Products Represenative Angel Dugas.
Dugas said Avon has been coming to the job fair for almost five years now.
Senior English education major Alyssa Davis said the job fair offered a decent amount of employers and was beneficial to students because students did not have to leave campus to look for a job.
Ashanti Mclaurin, a senior general studies major, said she heard of the job fair because she worked at the Campus Activities Board.
“Of course this is a really good tool for students who utilize this and promote what they like to do to employers here,” said Mclaurin. “I don’t see why students wouldn’t. There are even students like myself who don’t have cars and that can’t drive. For them to have it here is great, and for students to utilize it is very efficient.”
McLaurin said she went to about six different employers at the job fair and found all of them to be very helpful.
“They are answering all my questions, and if one can’t, another person is,” said Mclaurin
The part-time job fair is not the only job fair coming to campus this fall.
Career Services will host its annual career fair, Career Fair 2013, for upper-class students and recent alumni who are looking for full-time positions. The fair will be held Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Pennington Student Activity Center. Students and alumi interested in attending are encouraged to dress in business-casual attire and bring their resume.
