The Southeastern God’s Chosen Gospel Choir will hold a concert in honor of its 41st anniversary on Saturday, April 27 at 5 p.m., titled “Shifting the Atmosphere.”
The theme is recognizing the issue of violence, despair and terrorism in the world today. GCGC hopes to make a positive shift in the atmosphere with their music.
“The circumstances, conditions or objects by which one is surrounded by is most often called their atmosphere,” said Maci Washington, GCGC member and sophomore early childhood education major. “In the world we live in today, with terrorism, thoughts of failure and the fear of not having enough, it is time for a positive shift in the right direction.”
According to Trina Morris, GCGC vice president, the choir is one of the oldest African American organizations on Southeastern’s campus.
“Our primary objective is to minister through music to our campus community and the community at large,” said Morris.
“Shifting the Atmosphere” will be held at God’s Tabernacle of Deliverance at 12415 Wardline Road. GCGC has performed at numerous events on and around campus like Rock ‘n Roar, in order to spread the word of God through the community. Morris, a sophomore nursing major , said the organization is always open to new members, and if any student is interested in joining the organization, they can attend open rehearsals. They are held on Mondays from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Pottle Music Building.
“It’s time to bring back hope in what really matters and what can really make a difference, the Gospel of Christ,” said Washington.
