In observance of World AIDS Week, the Southeastern chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Face to Face Enrichment Center hosted an HIV/AIDS testing day. The testing was free for students who wished to participate. Participation was completely confidential as students were given a number so no one would know the results of the test. Students walked into the bus, got tested and waited about 20 minutes for their results.
“We are doing testing because this week is World AIDS Week and we just want to bring awareness to Southeastern’s campus,” said Kinder Timbull, NAACP member and the Face to Face Enrichment Center worker. “We just want to provide free testing for the students so that they can be aware of their status and be healthy and not be spreading the virus.”
Jeremy Lloyd, a junior vocal performance major expressed the need for students to get tested.
“I feel as a people we should get tested and know our status. It’s a pandemic and it’s killing people so why not stop it,” said Lloyd. “Let’s present it. Spread the word, not the virus.”
